Lieutenant General Spyros – Gerasimos Rossis was born in Piraeus in 1964. He was admitted to the Hellenic Army Academy (Evelpidon) in 1981, and graduated as an Armour Second Lieutenant in 1985.

As a Junior Officer, he served in various Expeditionary Units with duties ranging from Platoon Leader to Company Commander.

He has attended all required Armour Officer Training Courses.

In 1997, he attended the Army War College.

As a Senior Officer, he served as a Staff Officer in various Hellenic Army Operational Formations and the Hellenic Army General Staff.

In 2002, he was appointed as the Commander of the 12th Medium Tank Battalion, which he commanded for two years.

In 2008, he was appointed as the Commander of the 88th Medium Tank Battalion, which he commanded for a year.

In 2009, he attended the Supreme National Defense College of the People’s Republic of China, in Beijing, China.

In 2011, he was appointed as the Defense Attaché of the Hellenic Republic in Albania.

In 2014, upon promotion to Brigadier General he was appointed to the Hellenic Army General as the Army Personnel Welfare Division Director.

In 2015, he was appointed as the 25th Armoured Brigade Commander.

In 2016, he was appointed to the Hellenic Army General Staff as the Army Structure Division Director.   

In 2017, upon promotion to Major General, he was appointed as the Commander of the 20th Armoured Division.

In 2019, he was appointed to the Hellenic Army General Staff as the D Branch Director.

On March 9th, 2020, upon decision of the Governmental Council on Foreign Policy and National Defence he was promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed as the Commandant of the Hellenic National Defense College.
